Let’s discover one of the craziest and rarest fields of handwork.

What a pleasure it was each time anew to witness the amazed looks of children and adults when we wrote their names with the naked eye on a single grain of rice. The enjoyment of seeing these reactions on people’s faces, of course, helped our ego but we also knew we were giving our customers a special opportunity to be part of an ancient tradition of hundreds, if not thousands of years - to be the proud owners of a “name on rice.”

The Ancient Tradition

In the Far East, writing names on rice symbolizes abundance, fertility, and luck. In Japan, for example, it’s customary to give a new bride her name and her partner’s name on a single grain of rice as a charm for eternal happy matrimony. Even in Western cultures, rice symbolizes blessing and happiness - have you ever had rice thrown at you at a wedding?

This small grain, which by itself is unimportant and negligible, when gathered from the plant with toil and hard work and added to its small brothers in a group, can feed entire families and peoples. Hence, being one of the most basic and important food types for humans, comes its special symbolism.

The Art Around the World

It’s likely that during your travels around the world - India, China, Japan, Turkey, and even the USA, you’ll encounter an artist sitting, bent over, inside his small booth writing on rice.

The magic of this art is that you can write many words on a single grain - with the right tools and the right professionalism. We’ve been engaged in this ancient and special art for many years and have reached the highest professional level.
